Cranmer Pre-School opened in 1978 and is now set in the vicinity of Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Primary School in the village of Aslockton. Although separate from the school the Pre-School has an ‘outstanding partnership with the school’ (Ofsted, 2009).

The Pre-School is managed by a community based voluntary committee, with a dedicated team of early year’s practitioners providing high quality care and education. The pre-school leader holds a BA (Hons) applied studies in early childhood and is currently working towards early year’s professional status. The majority of the team hold a relevant early year’s qualification and have extensive experience. A stimulating environment is provided for the children, with a wide range of activities in all areas of learning, this encourages the children to learn play and explore. A strong emphasis is placed on language development in all activities and children’s learning is extended by the staff questioning, developing discussions and supporting the children to investigate further. A comprehensive assessment is carried out to track children’s learning and development. Children are provided with individual goals to move them on to the next stage of development.
